In what would be seen as the confirmation of Mayo's lofty standing on the national stage, the Red & Green Army could yet be housed in the Hill 16 section of Croke Park, in the upcoming All-Ireland Final.
On the last four occasions Mayo have played in Croke Park, including two editions of the All-Ireland Final last year, the Canal End terrace had been earmarked for the Mayo supporters.
Hill 16, a section of the stadium emersed in history, is regarded as having a much elevated and preferable view than its opposite end, despite having a lesser crowd capacity. And late last week, Secretary Sean Feeney, on behalf of the Mayo County G.A.A. Board, officially applied to G.A.A. Headquarters for Mayo to be allocated the Hill for the All-Ireland Final against Kerry on September 28th.
Mr. Feeney said yesterday "We have written to Cumann Luthcleas Gael, asking for the Hill 16 area to be assigned to the Mayo support". A decision on ticket allocations is not expected to be made known for a week or two.
The one point defeat of Kerry in Saturday's All-Ireland Minor semi-final will mean that the Munster kingpins have missed out on the opportunity of collecting approximately 5,000 extra tickets.
Liam Mulvihill, Director General of Cumann Luthcleas Gael, is not obliged to comment on ticket allocations.
