For the second year running Westport is Mayo's tidiest town, followed by Belcarra and Aughagower.
They received 230, 229 and 210 respectively out of a possible 300 marks. Both Belcarra and Aughagower were highly recommended by the adjudicators.
The results of the 1997 Tidy Towns Competition were announced on Monday night.
The Mayo results were:
Population not exceeding 200: Aughagower (210); Belcarra (229); Breaffy (151); Keel (125); Kilkeeran (196); Kilmaine (101); Lahardane (169); MayoAbbey (141); Mulranny (166) TheNeale (169).
Population between 201 and 1,000: Balla (183); Ballintubber (187); Ballycastle (160); Bangor Erris (162); Dooagh-Pollagh (124); Foxford (142); Knock (154); Murrisk (170); Newport (179); The Quay (181).
Population between 1,001 and 2,500: Ballinrobe (138); Belmullet (173); Claremorris (146); Crossmolina (172) and Swinford (175).
Population between 2,501 and 5,000: Westport (230)
Population between 5,001 and 10,000: Ballina (155) and Castlebar (186).
