Major film for Achill For the second time in a year, a major film is to be shot on Achill Island. Extras are being recruited locally for the film "Love and Hate" which is based on the book, "Playboy and the Yellow Lady", by James Carney, set in 19th century Achill. The Valley House Hotel in Achill, owned by Roger Gallagher, where part of the story was set, has been taken over for filming purposes. File for DPP on fireworks haul GARDAI in Castlebar seized a susbtantial quantity of fireworks when they raided a house in the town around Halloween. It is believed the fireworks were being sold to youngsters in the area. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the matter. Court closes "danger" site A building site in Dublin where a County Mayo construction worker was killed last week hasbeen closed down on the orders of the High Court. The man who died was 24 year old James Masterson, one of a family of seven, five boys and two girls, from Geesala. Yesterday (Tuesday), the High Court ordered that building work at Charlotte Quay, Ringsend be shut down until specific measures are taken to reduce the risk to health and safety of those working on the site. Opening of new school at Tooreen The ultra-modern new primary school at Tooreen, Ballyhaunis will be officially opened on Friday by the Minister for Education, Michael Martin TD. The new Centre, close to the old school, incorporates four classrooms. Four teachers are employed there. The local community staged a number of protests over the years in their fight for a new facility to replace to dilapidated old building.
