Judge bans parking of caravans on Castlebar public roads

A Castlebar hotelier have been granted an interim injunction by the Circuit Court restraining itinerants from parking on his lands.

Judge Harvey Kenny also ordered five named defendants from parking caravans on any public road in the vicinity of the plaintiffs lands or on any Local Authority road in Castlebar.

The action was taken at Westport Circuit Court by Mr. Patrick Jennings, trading as Diorama Ltd, of the Travellers Friend Hotel, Old Westport Road, Castlebar, against Michael McDonagh, Tom McDonagh, Eoin McDonagh, Martin Sweeney and Tom (The Boxer) McDonagh who has been parked at the rear of the Travellers Friend Hotel.

Judge Kenny ordered that the defendants and all other persons having notice of the order whether by themselves, their servants, their agents of invitees be restrained from trespassing on or interfering with the plaintiffs use of the property.

He further ordered that they remove all of their property from the plaintiffs land by 6p.m. on Wednesday December 3.

Mr. Jennings was given liberty to enter a Notice of Motion for Interlocutory relief at a sitting of Galway Circuit Court tomorrow (Thursday).

Mr. Gerry Needham B.L. (instructed by Garavan & O'Connor Solicitors) represented Mr. Jennings. Costs in the case were reserved.
