An international skills register is being compiled by Castlebar Chamber of Commerce in a bid to match trained emigrant workers with jobs in Mayo.

And the Christmas homecoming is being used by the Chamber to boost the jobs ledger as part of on-going developments in the Castlebar Information Age Town project.

Those with computer related qualifications are particularly urged to 'sign-on'. And to facilitate the seasonal visitors the Chambers Information Age office at Ellison Street will remain open over Christmas.

Chamber President, Mr. Pat Jennings said: "We are going to establish an international skills register and we are calling on all emigrants returning for Christmas to register. Relatives of emigrants, too, should register people abroad who they know.

"The Information Age Town office will be open specially over Christmas to facilitate those wishing to register at the office. They can also send their CV's to us through the post, fax or by e-mail.

"We want to compile a register so that we will be able to marry jobs specifically to the needs of the local community. It would be an international skills register. We are going to advertise this on the Internet and in different emigrant newspapers.

"We are inviting returned emigrants to visit our office over the Christmas period, register their skills and see first hand the workings of the internet."

CVs should be forwarded by post to

Mr. Jennings thanked all the organisations who contributed to the establishment of the Information Age Office since it was first opened.
