"Crimeline" slot in bid to find missing woman Gardai are to stage a TV "Crimeline" reconstruction of the last known movements of Sligo woman Ms Rose McCaffrey who has been missing since December 18th and whose car has been found in the Murrisk area of County Mayo. The pilgrim path on Croagh Patrick has already been extensively searched by rescue teams. Fifty five year old Ms McCaffrey's blue Fiat Uno was discovered in the carpark at the base of the mountain on December 20th. The search, in hugely difficult weather conditions, involved Gardai, mountain rescue teams; Order of Malta personnel; local residents, tracker dogs and a Garda plane and helicopter. Ms. McCaffrey, of 3 A Charles Street, Sligo was last seen by her sister on Thursday, December 18th. Garda Inspector Jerry Henry said yesterday he hoped the "Crimeline" item, which will be shown in the coming weeks, will help jog memories and perhaps yield some definite information about Ms. McCaffrey's last movements. No FAX machine in District court office A judge has criticised the lack of basic communications equipment at the District Court Office in Castlebar. Judge Dan Shields said he was shocked to learn that the Castlebar office was without the use of a FAX machine. This followed the temporary removal of the adjacent Circuit Court Office from the Courthouse building to which the District Court staff has access. Judge Shields said the absence of such vital equipment surprised him. "The lack of what is now a basic facility in an office environment shows a lack of respect for the court", Judge Shields added. Flood horror returns for south Mayo families PAINFULLY familiar "Road Blocked" signs are up again on the Kilmaine to The Neale road in south Mayo as local families endure their now almost annual flooding difficulties. The flooding at Ballinacarra has been ongoing since 1986 despite local agitation on the issue and remedial works by Mayo County Council in an effort to find a solution. Since the start of the year, families in the townlands of Ballinacarra, Clyard, Creeveurddaun, Islandmore and Cornacarton had to make detours. Two schoolbuses-serving Ballinrobe and Headford-have to make detours. Nine students in total are involved. Local man Sean Joyce said yesterday (Tuesday): "We are calling on Mayo County Council to exercise its authority under the 1993 Roads Act. They have the power and the obligation to carry out meaningful remedial works and ease harship". Boyzone boss shortlisted for Mayo Person award BOYZONE boss Louis Walsh has been shortlisted for the 'Mayo Person of the Year' award which is due to be announced on Monday next, writes TOM KELLY. Walsh, a native of Kiltimagh, has been to the forefront of the Irish entertainment scene for over 20 years. A past pupil of St. Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen, he is in his mid-forties and is a regular visitor to the county. He has been a key figures behind the international success of Boyzone as well as other Irish bands, including the Carter Twins, over the years. Others shortlished for the prestigious award, which will be presented at a gala banquet in Dublin on Friday, February 16th, include Mr. Sean Hannick, a member of the Mayo-based Lobby 2000 Group, and Mr. Pat Quigley, president of the F.A.I. and a member of U.E.F.A. |
