Cinema promoter won't move to Westport

The promoter of the proposed six-screen cinema for Castlebar last night revealed he was not prepared to transfer the complex to Westport if An Bord Pleanala rejected the £2.3m. development.
Mr. Leo Warde, managing director of the Warde Anderson Group, confirmed he had received an approach from interests in the seaside town.
He said: "If the planning board upholds the appeal against the decision of Castlebar Urban Council to grant planning permission, I will concentrate on upgrading the existing cinema in Castlebar."
Mr. Warde said he did not think the market existed for two multi-screen cinemas in Mayo.
The Dublin-based promoter said he was reasonably confident of the Castlebar plan proceeding at Knockagrogery, near the newly opened Dunnes Stores carpark.
He confirmed he would still proceed with his plan if a similar development at Gorteendrunagh, backed by Tony O'Connor Promotions, also got sanctioning from An Bord Pleanala.
Added Mr. Warde: "I have a record second to none in this country regarding the establishment of multi-screen cinemas in all of Ireland's major cities and towns. I stand over my record."
