CONNAUGHT SENIOR LEAGUE PREMIERSHIP

Salthill Devon ..................... 4 Castlebar Celtic ................... 1

Castlebar Celtic suffered their first defeat in the Connaught Senior League Premiership in Galway on Saturday when they were outplayed by Salthill Devon.

It was a disappointing performance by Celtic who conceded as many goals in the game as they had in their previous seven games in the series.

Celtic boss Mick McDonagh said he won't mind too much if his players learn from the result.

But they have another tough assignment next weekend when they travel to face Galway United on Sunday.

Celtic conceded a bad goal after just ten minutes following a defensive mistake and Kenny Talbot reaped full advantage.

Danny Lawless was denied an equaliser moments later by the woodwork, but Salthill extended their lead before half-time through David Silke.

A second goal by Talbot early in the second half put Salthill firmly in control, although substitute Harry Flynn did pull a goal back for Celtic.

Celtic biggest defeat of the season was completed by a fourth Salthill goal from James Walsh.

Celtic cannot afford too many more performances like this one if they hope to maintain their championship challenge.

Castlebar Celtic: D. Kilkelly, O. Cunningham, S. Reilly, K. Murphy, F. McHale, S. Murphy, D. Lawless, B. Horan, K. Ryan, M. Horan, D. Ainsworth. Res: H. Flynn (for Ainsworth).
