Another major boost for Knock Airport

6 May 1998

By AIDEN HENRY

Knock International Airport has received another major boost with the news that a Freight Forwarding Company is to set up operations at the Industrial Estate adjoining the airport complex.

It was confirmed yesterday that Crisham Industrial Properties, Galway, have been granted planning permission to erect a 20,000 square feet building for the new cargo operation.

The construction company are expected to commence work on the new building in the near future.

With work to start shortly on a new 30,000 square feet office block in the north west corner of the industrial estate this latest development will be seen as a new beginning for the airport.

As exclusively revealed in the Connaught Telegraph two weeks ago Knock International Airport is poised to become one of Ireland's premier industrial and commercial centres in the next decade. A master plan was unveiled for the airport which includes a 7,000 square metres extension to the main terminal, a commercial and industrial park, hotel and office accommodation. This latest announcement signals the beginning of the new era for the airport.

This new evolution will also bring pressure on the Government to sanction money for the proposed water and sewerage treatment plant. The Airport Board has asked the State for £700,000 to install this new plant.
