Foxford Society to host Argentine Day

An Argentine Day will be held in Foxford on Sunday to include an Argentine ASADO (Barbeque) with Irish and Argentine music and celebrations.

This day will be in honour of Admiral Brown the Founder of the Argentine navy. A full itinerary of events for the day is planned. Invitations have been extended to the new Argentine Ambassador (Victor Beauge), the Argentine Football Supporters Club, the Longford Westmeath Argentine Association and the Wexford Argentine Association in which the vast majority of the 400,000 Irish descendants in Argentina emigrated from.

All the main wine companies are involved with the local president of the Admiral Brown Society, J.J. O'Hara, who is supplying Argentine wines such as Echart, Navarra Correas and Balbi for the day. The town and the ASADO (barbeque) site will be decorated in flags and bunting in the Argentine colours. A large Philips screen will be supplied by Robert Marsh & Co. for the match Itinerary for Argentine Day in Foxford

1.00: A Parade from the Admiral Brown Monument.

1.10: Laying of wreath at Admiral Brown Monument followed by a parade to the ASADO (Barbeque) site where there will be Argentine wine and Argentine style beef served.

3.00: At this time the Argentine and Irish Anthems will be played and sung by the Brass Band and local school choirs.

4.30: Argentine V Jamaica match will be shown at ASADO site on a large screen.

6.00: Celebrations will continue with live irish and argentine music.
