The village of Knockmore and the people of Enniskillen were united in grief in a special ecumenical ceremony in the Church of Christ the King, Knockmore, in memory of the two eel-fishermen who lost their lives on Lough Conn.

Over one hundred people from Knockmore joined the 65 who had travelled from Northern Ireland for the ceremony. They were family, relatives and friends of Trevor Body and Jeremy Irvine who had perished in a drowning accident. In the protracted search for their bodies hundreds of people assisted in the operation which lasted for seven weeks.

The ceremony was concelebrated by Fr. Michael Harrison and Rev. Cecil Pringle and was attended by members of the Gardai who had co-ordinated the search, civil defence personnel and fishery board staff. Members of the Boyne rescue unit also travelled to Knockmore.

During the course of the ceremony Rev. Pringle thanked the people of Knockmore for their kindness to the families of the deceased.

The families also spent a quiet period on the lake shore from where the two men had set out on the ill-fated night.

During the ceremony Tanya Hanley, who had been involved in the search, sang several appropriate songs.

Later those in attendance were given refreshments and the organisers would like to thank Falcon Fruits, Ballina, Pure Fresh Dairies and O'Hara's Bakery for their generous sponsorship.
