Members of the public, elected representatives and medical personnel are welcome to come and inspect the aircraft. Mulranny based Dr. Jerry Cowley, chairman of the HEMS Committee said Ireland is the only country in Europe without a dedicated HEMS service. He said; "It's no fault of the land ambulance system or of the Air Corps that deficiencies in the pre-hospital care of road accident victims and other ill people are causing lives to be lost, mainly young people. "Young people after road accidents are being left disabled for life, due to the lack of a HEMS service in Ireland. It is estimated that this shocking figure could be cut in half were there a HEMS service in this country.' The helicopter will touch down at Westport for demonstration purposed as part of the World organisation of National Colleagues and Academics (WONCA) conference which is being staged in Westport.
