Shaughnessy rescues brave Claremorris WELCOME INN HOTEL PREMIER DIVISION Urlaur United ............................. 2 Claremorris ............................ 2 A late lapse of concentration cost Urlaur United a valuable two points in Sunday's Mayo league Premier Division clash against Claremorris. Charlestown Athletic are the favourites to win the title outright Good news on Vahey's mystery injury scare CONNAUGHT CLUB CHAMPIONS (Michael Byrne) CUP FINAL BY Tom Kelly Influential Ballyglass striker Martin Vahey will miss his side's bid to lift the Michael Byrne Cup for the first time when they face Galway Bohs at Galway on Sunday (k.o. 3.00p.m.) Vahey has not kicked a ball since the side's F.A.I. Junior Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Fairview Rangers in April because of a back injury. He attended a number of specialists before being diagnosed as having a muscular problem, for which he is now receiving treatment. The early fears were that Vahey could be out of the game for a number of months. But there are now hopes he could be back in action by the end of June. Jarlath Moran, Ballyglass manager, said the injury was a major concern because Vahey's doctors could not find out what was wrong. But the mystery has been cleared up, and he is likely to be back as early as Sunday, June 28th, when Ballyglass face Urlaur United in the Mayo League Premier Division. Also out of next weekend's provincial final because of injuries are Ray Prendergast and Kenny Staunton, both of whom also missed Sunday's 6-3 win over Lacken United. Ballyglass received a walk-over into the final because of the decision of Sligo champions, M.C.R., to withdraw. Moran said he knew very little about Galway Bohs, but was expecting a tough match. "It would be lovely to win another trophy. But it won't be easy. Our form has not been that great, but we may have turned the corner last weekend. " Galway Bohs defeated Cloonfad in their semi-final clash last Sunday.
