Killasser, Swinford born Jackie Gallagher is one of the key advisers on policy to An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern TD and played an important role in organising last week's Cong summit between Mr. Ahern and the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

Mr. Gallagher, a former business journalist with the Irish Times, is mostly involved in drafting policy speeches for the Taoiseach but found himself Acting Press Secretary in recent weeks as the Press Secretary Joe Lennon is on holidays.

It couldn't have been a busier or more demanding time for the incumbent as the Omagh bomb exploded just after Mr. Lennon had taken his annual holidays.

Still, word from the corridors of power is that Jackie Gallagher, a past pupil of Mean Scoil Muire agus Phadraig, Swinford is taking it all in his stride.

Judging by his performance at Ashford Castle on Wednesday, Jackie is an accomplished hand at dealing with the national and international media and his stint as Acting Press Secretary will have boosted his standing in the higher echelons no end.

Jackie, by the way, is a native of Ballinacurra, Killasser. He is son of the late Martin and Winnie Gallagher and a nephew of well known Ballinacurra building contractor, the late J.J. Gallagher who was a major force in the Bermingham development scene earlier this century.
