Incidents at disputed bungalow-man arrested A former solicitor whose repossessed home at Murrisk near Westport has been resold is to appear at Westport Court on Friday on charges arising out of incidents on Monday last. Anthony O'Malley was arrested by Gardai when he went to his disputed former home as the new owner, a man from the Kilmeena area, was moving in furniture. Gardai were quickly on the scene and Mr. O'Malley was taken away for questioning. He was released later but is due to appear at Westport District Court on Friday. It is believed that the property, sold by the Irish Nationwide Building Society, fetched in the region of £150,000. The deal was conducted privately as Mr. O'Malley disrupted a public auction held earlier in the year. Mr. O'Malley claimed in a conversation with the new owner on Monday before he was arrested on Monday that the building society does not have first legal charge on the property and that he (Mr. O'Malley) still holds the title deeds for part of the property. New owners for D'Alton InnBy AIDEN HENRYTWIN brothers Sean and Donal Gallagher from Dundalk, Co. Louth have purchased the D'Alton Inn, Claremorris for a reported £1.5m. For the past 2¸ years the Gallagher's have been running PJ's in Dunmore. The premises had been owned for almost twenty years by Claremorris businessman Mr. Tommy Higgins. He acquired it as a small pub and over the years developed it into a 17 bedroom hotel and the successful nightclub 'Eye Catchers'. The hotel was sold by Brendan Tuohy & Co., Westport and company representative Peter Tuohy said the Higgins family were very pleased with the deal. Man United support Mayo People of the YearA FOOTBALL autographed by the Manchester United squad and a shirt autographed by Roy Keane will be among the items which will be auctioned at the annual Mayo People of the Year Awards gala banquet in Hotel Westport on Friday night November 27. The items have been donated by Manchester businessman, Mr. Owen Gallagher, a native of Glengad, Belmullet. Eight awards will be presented on the night and the compere for the evening will be Mr. Aiden Crowley. The function is organised by Mayo Rehab in conjunction with AIB Bank Mayo and the Connaught Telegraph. Roundfort man killed in crashTHE driver of a van, Brendan Macken of Churchquarter, Roundfort, was killed on Monday night when the vehicle he was driving was in collision with an oil truck near Milltown. Aged 28-years, the deceased was employed as a driver with the American Wood Floor company in Claremorris. A member of a well-known sporting family, he was brother of athlete Josephine Macken. The accident happened about a mile outside Milltown on the Ballindine Road. Treacy seeks Euro seatTHE Minister for Science, Technology and Commerce, Mr. Noel Treacy announced yesterday that he is to seek a nomination to contest the European Elections in the Connaught/Ulster Constituency next June in the hope of taking the seat being vacated by Fianna Fail's Mark Killilea. The former auctioneer and financial services manager, Mr. Treacy is a native of Gurteen, Ballinasloe.
