Work soon on Ballina Auto-Turning factoryBy Tom ShielCONSTRUCTION work on the new National Auto-Turning Training Centre at a site near the Ridge Pool in Ballina is expected to commence before Spring. This follows the weekend decision to locate the practical training aspect of the industry in Ballina. The academic training for apprentices will be given in Tralee. Following the uncertainty of the past few months, the definite news that Auto-Turning is coming to Ballina has been welcomed by the Tanaiste, Mary Harney who is on a ten day trip to Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Ms Harney stated that coupled with the new Coca Cola plant, the auto-turning facility will provide a significant impetus to the commercial development of Ballina and north Mayo. Killala businessman Sean Hannick, who spearheaded the Auto-Turning campaign, is confident the project will attract other industries as was the case in France. Ballina based Fine Gael Senator, Ernie Caffrey, meanwhile, says the project will be of tremendous benefit to the engineering industry on a national level. And local Minister of State, Dr. Tom Moffatt said the Government had delivered on its promise to Ballina. The new national training complex would be of tremendous benefit to the town, Dr. Moffatt stated. |
