and then Achill Greenway
The 42km Great Western Greenway from Westport through Newport to Achill is Irelands' longest off road cycling and walking facility.
This world class Greenway was named the Irish winner of the 2011 European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) award.
This wonderful trail, perfect for getting out on your bike or stretching your legs in a healthy walk, follows the route of the old Westport to Achill railway line which closed in 1937. With its gentle gradients and resplendent scenery, this traffic free cycling and walking trail is a fitting memento of the glorious railway era.
The Greenway is sub-divided into three sections: Westport to Newport 11km, Newport to Mulranny 18km and Mulranny to Achill 13km.
Bicycle hire and return is available in a variety of outlets at different points of the Greenway.
