Telegraph Supplement

Connaught Telegraph April 3 1996

To mark the official opening of our new headquarters we will publish a bumper 196-page tabloid commemorative supplement next week April 10.

It will be an issue that no Mayo person will want to be without as it chronicles the changing face of the county since the Connaught Telegraph was founded on St PatrickÕs Day 1828.

For the past three months Connaught Telegraph reporter, Tom Kelly has been editing the supplement. Since January, he has been delving through the microfilm files of the Connaught Telegraph in search of suitable and interesting items for reprinting in the supplement.

Former editorial, print, typesetting and maintenance employees recall their days and nights at Cavendish Lane while other contributors tell of their memories of the paper and what it has meant to them.

It also contains several articles outlining the growth of the Connaught Telegraph under its various proprietors over the last 168 years.

Old photographs, too, make up an important part of the issue and there is a vast wealth of historical and sporting information as well as lighthearted articles to entertain and amuse. Supplement Editor, Tom Kelly said: ÒThis was a mammoth task but the end result was worth all the effort. I am sure our readers will enjoy the supplement. It is our way of saying thank you to everybody associated with the newspaper over the years, as well as to our advertisers and readersÓ
