The chairman of the Mayo G.A.A. Board, Fr. Noel Forde, has warned business people in the county to be weary of the 'quick buck merchants' who will try to make money on the success of the Mayo team.

He appealed to those wishing to support Mayo's All Ireland Football final fund to do so only through legitimate county board fund-raising ventures. The Breaffy-based curate warned that a number of organisation and individuals would now be using Mayo's success 'to make a quick buck.'

He was particularly sceptical of individuals who came into the county organising colour posters and calendars of the team.

"There are people in the county who should benefit from Mayo's success and who have genuinely supported us down through years", he said.

"I have no problem with these people cashing in on Mayo's success.

"It organisations from outside the county who see the opportunity to make easy money that I'm concerned about".

Fr. Forde said Mayo people should enjoy the team's success and if there was money to be made by people in the county that was fine.

"I just want to put people on their guard that there will be business firms and organisations out there using the occasion to make money on the backs of the work of the team and we are against that".

Fr. Forde said if people wished to subscribe to the fund to help train the team and bring them to the All Ireland Final, there were established avenues to do so.

Anyone who wanted to contribute, no matter how small, could do so by contacting any office of the County Board.

He called on the county to get behind the team now that they were within sight of an All Ireland senior title.

"This team has really worked hard and John Maughan has put in the effort to get them where they are. Now we must support them", he added.
