CAT SCAN GARDEN PARTY

The Minister for Trade and Tourism, Mr. Enda Kenny will perform the official opening of the CAT Scan Garden Party on the grounds of Turlough Park House, Turlough, Castlebar at 2.30p.m. on Sunday.

All the proceeds from the event go to the Mayo General Hospital Cat Scan Appeal fund.

Topping the bill at the Garden party will be the Castlebar Concert Band, the Mayo Concert Orchestra, the Conquerors and the Mulloy Brothers.

Those attending will be greeted with a champagne and strawberries reception as well as a gastronomical feast.

A limited number of tickets are still on sale and they can be obtained from Mulroy's Supermarket at the Moneen roundabout, Castlebar and from Staunton's Gift Shop, Main Street, Castlebar.

MWR will do an outside broadcast from the event on Sunday afternoon. Entrance to the Garden party is from the N5 only.

SWINFORD WALK

The Swinford and District Development Organisation will hold a walk from Meelick Community Centre on Sunday at 2p.m. Full information can be obtained from Casey's tourist information.

TAUGHEEN CEILI

A Ceili will be held in Taugheen Hall on Saturday, the proceeds of which will go to the Mayo General Hospital CAT Scan appeal. Music will be provided by the Glenside Ceili band. Plans are also being formulated for the staging of a set-dancing workshop at Taugheen hall in early October. Full details later.

DAIL DEMO FOR LIVING FUND

Representatives from the Mayo Centre for Independent Living are taking park in a demonstration outside Dail Eireann today (Wednesday) to highlight the need for the establishment of an independent living fund for people with physical disabilities.

BUSINESS-WATCH LAUNCH

The newly elected chairman of Castlebar Urban Council Mr. Eoin Garavan officially launched a Business-Watch scheme in Castlebar, a drive which is representative of the business community in the town.

MAIDEN VOYAGE

Achill's new lifeboat "The Helen Turnbull", manned by a local crew, will arrive at Darby's Point, Cloughmore at 3p.m. on Saturday on its maiden journey from RNLI headquarters in Poole in Dorset.

PAINTING EXHIBITION

Glenn Kearney, Turlough, Castlebar has undertaking a series of paintings of Turlough House, Castlebar and hopes to have them on exhibition in Turlough House on Sunday

SPENCER STREET CAR PARK

Mayo County Council have informed Tourism Minister Enda Kenny that the proposed Spencer Street car park in Castlebar will have vehicular entrance from Station Road through Spencer park with pedestrian access at the side of the County Cinema

CROAGH PATRICK PEACE LINK

Over 100 people will form a link for peace on the summit of Croagh Patrick on Saturday July 13 . The group will be led by Mayo team manager John

Maughan and several of the county players. One of the oldest women in the region, Mary Ellen McGuinn (102) from Curry Co. Sligo will join the group at the base of the mountain.
