MAYOMAN IS NEW PRESIDENT OF IPAV
Mr Thomas Collins MIPAV, has been elected President of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers (IPAV).
Mr. Collins who runs the family auctioneering practice, Collins Estate Agents, in Castlebar, has been in the auctioneering business since 1986. Aged 33, he is the youngest ever President of IPAV, and he takes over the Presidency from Peter Murtagh.
The new President addressed the tax incentive renewal schemes at the Institute's AGM at the weekend. While these have been very beneficial for many areas, particularly in the West of Ireland, there has to be caution.
"Small communities may lose out to larger and more influential towns and areas. Investment must be channelled so as to preserve the rural infrastructure of this country."
Property taxes and the newly introduced registration of rented housing regulations have been condemned by new IPAV President Thomas Collins at the Institute's AGM.
Commenting on Residential Property Tax, Mr. Collins stated "IPAV has stated on a number of occasions that this tax was unfair, unjust and uncollectable. It is, in effect, an unnecessary tax on home owners. In my time as President, I hope that we see the end of this inequitable law."
"Another law that has been arbitrarily foisted on accommodation providers is the newly introduced registration of rented housing regulations. A £40 levy on each accommodation unit is to be charged with no indication as to when or under who's discretion this figure can be increased in future years. Of course, this levy will be passed onto the very people that this misguided legislation was intended to "help"."
The practice, Collins Estate Agents, was started by Mr. Collins' grandfather and it handles a wide range of property transactions. Overseas sales and manor properties are two particular specialities
He is Director of Gaisce, the President's Award, a Commissioner for Oaths and is well known in Connaught social and political circles. Mr. Collins is married to Dr. Anne Cullen.
The Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) is a representative association for over 500 auctioneers, estate agents and valuers throughout Ireland.
It was set up in 1971. Its aims are to protect and promote the
professional standards of its members. Recently, the Institute established
its own full time education courses for people wishing to pursue a career in
the property industry.
