WELCOME INN HOTEL DIVISION ONE

Ballyheane hold onto comfortable lead

Ballyheane ....................... 3
Ballina Rovers ................... 2

Ballyheane retained their comfortable lead at the top of Division One of the Mayo League with a hard-earned victory over Ballina Rovers on Saturday.

They came from behind to score a deserved victory with goals by Greg Flynn (2) and Anthony Skeffington.

Skeffington struck the side's opening goal after being set up by Shane Coogan. Flynn gave the side the lead before half-time when he converted a penalty, awarded for an infringement on the prominent Coogan.

Flynn's second goal wrapped up the issue for the league leaders, although they were out under some pressure following the sending-off of Kieran Lally.

Manulla clear in second spot

Manulla B ......................... 2
Charlestown Athletic .............. 0

Manulla B have moved clear into second place in Division One of the Mayo League.

Walsh to Swinford's rescue

Swinford ..........1
Glenhest Rovers ...0

Swinford emerged victorious in this mid- table clash, the all important goal coming from Conor Walsh.

Walsh was a second half substitution and an inspired one at that. His goal leaves Swinford in fifth place in the table.

Lavin extends Lacken's unbeaten run

Moy Villa .......... 1
Lacken...............2

Lacken's leading scorer, John Lavin, did the business yet again for his team on Sunday, but the away side got more than they bargained for when travelling to Moy Villa.

Moy Villa certainly didn't play like a team anchored to the bottom of the division and just after half-time they equalised an early Sean Forde strike.

Moy Villa had their fair share of possession in the second period but it was Lavin's superb chip, from all of 25 yards, that secured maximum points for the visitors.

WELCOME INN HOTEL RESERVE DIVISION (East)

Noonan's a hat-trick hero

Achill Rovers ................. 1
Ballyglass .................... 5

Ballyglass scored a comfortable Reserve League victory over Achill Rovers at Curraune on Sunday.

Four first half goals by David Noonan (2), Damian Corbett and John O'Reilly put them in control of the match.

Noonan capped a great individual performance when he completed his hat-trick in the second half with a cracking strike from 20 yards.

Ballyheane left it late

Ballyvary Bluebombers ........... 2
Ballyheane ...................... 3

A late goal by Walter Tuffy goal gave Ballyvary a deserved Reserve League victory over Ballyvary Bluebombers at Knocksaxon.

The side's other scorers were Trevor Flynn and Tom Jennings.

WELCOME INN LEAGUE DIVISION TWO (NORTH)

Killala are joint league leaders

Killala .................. 4
Hollister ................ 1

Killala drew level with Ballina United at the top of Division Two (North) of the Mayo League on Saturday with a comfortable victory over Hollister.

An efficient first half performance killed off the Hollister change. Killala lead 3-0 at half time thanks to goals by Eddie Kenny, David Munnelly and David Alexander.

Alexander goal came from the penalty spot. It was his seventh converted penalty in eight matches.

Eddie Kenny completed the Killala scoring in the second half.

Big win for Glenisland

Glenisland United ........6
Parkside Celtic ..........0

Glenisland United restored their challenge for Division Two honours with a resounding victory over Parkside Celtic on Saturday evening.

Chris Gallagher opened the scoring for Glenisland as early as the 5th minute when the ball was played wide down the right flank and an excellent cross by Brendan Walsh was headed home.

Ronan Collins scored a second after fifteen and Sean Garvey added a third from a free kick, to put Glenisland firmly in the driving seat going into the break.

Parkside tried hard but Chris Gallagher scored his second to kill off any hint of a revival and goals by John McCarthy and Sean Garvey fattened Glenisland's goal difference considerably.

Bangor came from behind

Bangor Hibs ........3
Crossmolina ........3

Bangor came from two down to lead 3-2, but Crossmolina earned a point with a penalty in the closing stages in this Division 2 tie at Bangor Erris.

Brendan Keane opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes and when Joe Keane increased their lead 12 minutes into the second half, the Hibs seemed to be heading for a second consecutive home defeat.

But goals by John P. Carey and John G. Togher, who was only on the pitch for a minute, had the home side level and after 70 minutes the Hibs sensed victory.

This was on the cards when Brian Carey scored Hibs third goal with fifteen minutes remaining, until that last gasp penalty which was converted by Paul Flaherty.
