BOOK OF CONDOLENCE

A book of condolence has been opened at our offices at Cavendish Lane, Castlebar following the murder of crime reporter Veronica Guerin of the Sunday Independent.

Members of the public are invited to sign the book which will be available until 5p.m. on Friday. See editorial.

GRAVE OUTRAGE

Outrage has been expressed that vandals have smashed wreaths on graves at the old cemetery in Castlebar. The matter is being investigated by the Gardai.

KILLED IN HOLLAND

A Glenamoy man has been killed in a road traffic accident in Holland.

The remains of Brendan Maloney (41), a former Glenamoy footballer from Shranaploya were brought to Glenamoy Church yesterday evening (Tuesday) and burial will tale place after Requiem Mass today (Wednesday).

The deceased is survived by his father Tom, brothers, John, Patrick and Kevin and by his sisters Kathleen, Mary and Deirdre.

FIGHT FOR SIGHT

The fifth national Glaucoma Awareness Campaign is being staged during July. Tomorrow week (Thursday) a travelling information centre, organised by the Irish Fight For Sight Campaign will be at Pearse Street, Ballina and the following day Friday (July 12) at Market Square, Castlebar.

Members of the public will be able to attend for a free check that can indicate susceptibilities to glaucoma, an eye disorder which can cause blindness if not treated.
