OPEN THROUGH LUNCH

A total of £47,500 was raised in Mayo on Daffodil Day (March 22), bringing the national total to £1.1m for the second year in a row.For the past four years, daffodil funds, totalling £122,755 have helped support a Mayo-Roscommon home care service based at the County Clinic, Castlebar and the Community Care Offices, Roscommon.
Specialist home care nurses, Mary Murphy, Mary Byrne, Kate Keane and Patricia O'Brien provide counselling and nursing care for patients with advanced cancer whose preference is to stay at home with their families.
The Mayo/Roscommon service receives an annual grant from the daffodil fund of £37,000.
BALLINROBE SEWERAGE SCHEME OPENING
Trade and Tourism Minister Enda Kenny will perform the official opening tomorrow (Thursday) evening of the Ballinrobe sewerage and sewerage disposal scheme at the waste water treatment plant at Rathkelly, Ballinrobe at 5p.m.FOXFORD LIBRARY
The chairman of Mayo County Council, Mr. John Flannery will perform the official opening of the new Foxford Branch library this (Wednesday) evening at 5p.m.CLAREMORRIS ARTS LAUNCH
Trade and Tourism Minister Enda Kenny will officially open an exhibition of new works by the Korean sculptor Hyun Hye-Sung at the Claremorris Art Gallery, in association with the George Moore Society, on Saturday at 8.30p.m.At the same time the minister will also open the exhibition "Three Artists on the Horse" by Veronica Bolay, Basil Blackshaw and Brian Bourke at the same venue.
STORY-HOUR AT BALLINROBE LIBRARY
Storyteller extraordinaire Liz Weir will give a story-hour in the new Ballinrobe Library at St. Mary's Church tomorrow (Thursday) from 12 noon to 1p.m.Since 1985, Liz has been performing and leading international storytelling workshops from Canada to Australia, but is probably best known as presenter of the BBC Radio Ulster series "The Gift of the gab"
The Ballinrobe session, which is free of charge, is primarily aimed at 5 - 8 year olds
Since the opening the new library has experienced an unprecedented quadrupling of borrowers and issues in its first week of operation.
Proving strikingly popular is the availability of local and national newspapers.
A DAY IN THE BOG!
LISDOONVARNA will be the location for a "Day In The Bog" over the August Bank Holiday weekend with Mid-West Radio's Paul Claffey.There will be hundreds of authentic displays -- basket making, weaving, cooking, thatching and churning as well as displays of sleans, creels, carts, churns, skillets, thrashers, currachs and a fully reconstructed Irish cottage with traditional furniture.
There will be story-telling, poetry, set dancing and strawboys and an Irish wake, with the weekend ending wioth a "Bogman's Ball". Details on weekend packages can be obtained by ringing 094-23111.
PEOPLE IN NEED GRANT
S THE People in Need Trust are now compiling a list of voluntary or charitable organisations in Mayo seeking grant aid.Those wishing to apply should do so without delay in writing to The People In Need Trust, 34 South William Street, Dublin 2, phone: 01-6798062.
The figure raised in Mayo for the recent telethon has now reached the £60,000 mark. All of the money will be distributed in the form of grant aid to deserving charities in Mayo.
BALLINROBE CAT SCAN DANCE
A FUND raising dance in aid of the Mayo General Hospital CAT Scan appeal will be held in Cummins Lounge, Ballinrobe on Friday August 2. Tickets at £5 each are available at Cummins, Supermarket, Ballinrobe, Martin Murphy's newsagency, Ballinrobe, Tony Walkin Travel Agents, Ballinrobe and the Ballinrobe Tourist Office. They will cost £6 on the door on the night.BURSARIES FOR MAYO ACTORS
TWO Mayo actors have received Bursaries from the Arts Council to enable them continue their studies in their chosen profession.Eimear McBride from Castlebar receives £3,500 to continue her studies at the Drama centre, London while Sandra O'Malley from Westport has been awarded £2,000 to attend the Ecole de Mime Corperel.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

CAT SCAN HEADBANDS
Connaught Final match-goers on Sunday are asked to support Castlebar ICA members who will be selling Mayo and Galway headbands, the proceeds from which will go to the Mayo General Hospital CAT Scan appeal fund.Meanwhile Aughagower Community Council have raised £800 for the CAT scan appeal..
FROM THE DEPTHS OF TIME
Fisherman Martin O'Halloran had time on his hands when he lost his Telstar wrist watch overboard while setting nets in Clew Bay.
Inishturk Island based Martin, returned NINETEEN days later to check the catch and to his surprise and delight found the time piece entangled in the
net when he hauled them up from 30 fathoms --- and it was still ticking away.
