The National finals of the competition were held in the R.D.S. on Sunday last, the 2nd of June.James was a winner of the Under-9 category last year, and this year was forced to compete in the under-11 age bracket. Although at a severe age disadvantage, James performed very well and is sure to be bang in contention again next year.
James was accompanied to Dublin by his parents and principal of his school, Gortjordan N.S., Donal Carey. A great day was enjoyed by all.
After the action was completed in the R.D.S., the finalists attended the Ireland V Croatia match, and at half-time were introduced to the crowd in Lansdowne Road. CONGRATULATIONS KENNETH
Congratulations to Kenneth Mortimer, Shrule, who has recently been appointed to the Ulster Bank. Kenneth's training will commence on the 17th June in Dublin and will go on for three weeks.Kenneth is of course a well known footballer, having represented Mayo at all levels. In fact only last Sunday, Kenneth put in a stirling performance against London in the Connaught Championship.
MAYO TEAM MEMBERS
Helena Lohan and Sabrina Bailey from Shrule, were members of the Mayo Girls Under-14 team that defeated Roscommon in the Connaught Final in McHale Park on Friday evening last.Mayo had a comfortable win, and I am reliably informed that this was due, in no small way, to the performances of both Ms. Lohan and Ms. Bailey in the Red and Green.
OPENING OF NEW STAND
President of the Connaught Council, P.J. McGrath, a native of Kilmaine, will perform the official opening of the new stand in the Community Grounds, Kilmaine. The new stand has been developed at much cost and sweat and the Field Committee deserve a special mention for their determination and perseverance.
A number of leading G.A.A. officials will be present on Sunday next the 9th of June, when in between games featuring Kilmaine V Headford and Mayo V Clare, the stand will be opened.
Mayo come into the game on the back of a poor performance in victory against London. Mayo team manager John Maughan, who of course led Clare to success in the Munster final in 1992, will use this game in preparation for the Connaught semi-final on June 23 so a competitive game is assured.
