Concern over Bronze Age site

Concern is being expressed that a site of major archaeological importance could be lost to Castlebar.

Evidence of human habitation dating back more than 4,000 years was discovered on the site, thrtee-quarters of a mile from the centre of the town.

Now the local man who identified the site is worried that progess was not being made to preserve it as an area of national importance.

Ernie Sweeney said it was over two months ago since the important discovery was made amid a blaze of publicity.

But moves had not been made since to provide adequate protection to the Bronze Age discovery.

He said: "I am very concerned that a site of this magnitutde and historical importance appears to be forgotten.
