Bridget qualifies as accountant
Ms. Bridget Geoghegan of Preston, England has recently qualified as a member of the Chartered Association of certified Accountants. She is daughter of Thomas and Bridget Geoghegan of Inishbiggle Island.She attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Crossmolina and successfully completed examinations and relevant practice while working in a chartered accountancy practice in Preston.
St. Angela's School Concert
The Slógadh finalists from St. Angela's national school, Castlebar will be featured in a concert of traditional music, song and dance in the Fáilte Suite of the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Monday night (8.30p.m.)This promises to be a great evening featuring local musicians: John Kilkenny, Rosaleen Ward, Richie Hickey, Liam Cahill and Fr. Peter Gannon, members of Glégheal (Westport musicians), the Cresham dancers, Rev. Gary Hastings (Flute), Helen Ratigan (Harp) and singer Cónal O'Domhnail.
Launch of Resettlement Mayo
President Mary Robinson will officially launch Rural Resettlement (Mayo) Ltd. At a ceremony in the Foxford Woollen Mills on Thursday next April 4.The company has been set up to encourage and assist families to relocate in depopulated areas of Ireland and to seek financial aid from Government and other agencies to assist in the programme.
The company will also encourage existing communities to aid this development.
CAT Scan Banquet
An Easter Banquet in aid of the Cat Scan Appeal for the Mayo General Hospital is being organised by the Mayo Hospital Supporters for the Failte Suite of the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Easter Sunday night (April 7). Music will be provided by Phase and there will be celebrity artists from RTE. Tickets are available at £25 each.Achill Famine readings
Remembering the Famine is the theme of the Spring issue of Munitir Acla, the Achill parish magazine, as a tribute to all the victims of the Great Hunger.Udaras na Gaeltachta are sponsoring a short interlude of music and poetry with readings from Famine literature pertaining to Achill which will take place in Ted Lavelle's, Cashel, Achill on Friday night from 8 to 9p.m.

President Mary Robinson will be a guest on "Women to-day" on CRC-fm on Thursday April 4 at 3p.m.Mrs. Robinson will be in Castlebar to perform the official opening earlier of the new headquarters of the Connaught Telegraph.

Last year 153,000 angling visitors spent £57m in Ireland, the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Enda Kenny said on Monday night when he launched a game angling marketing plan in Castlebar for the West of Ireland.The region, he said, caters for a third of the total angling visitors to this country and 55 jobs are created for every million pounds spent.
The Minister said Ireland's freshwater resources were vast in terms of our
geographical size - an incredible 16,000 miles of rivers and streams and
over half a million acres of lake water.
