Kilmovee candlelight procession

A special candlelight procession will be held at The Grotto, Kilmovee, at 8.00 p.m. on next Sunday evening, March 10th. This is being held in association with the countrywide prayers for peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland and elsewhere. All are welcome.

LOURDES TRUST FUND

The Lourdes Children's Trust Fun committee wish to thank all who contributed so generously to their recent Church-gate collection In Kilkelly. The amount raised was £106.39.

FASHION SHOW

A major Fashion Show will be held in Tansey's lounge in Kilkelly on Friday, March 22nd. It is being organised by Kilkelly Foroige Club and tickets for the show are priced at £3 each. Among those taking part will be Mini-Elegance, Tubbercurry, Siobhan's Fashions, Charlestown, Eddie Murphy's, Ballyhaunis, and Finn's Shoes, Ballyhaunis.

CARD GAMES

Card games in aid of Tavrane N.S. are held in the school on Thursday nights at 9.30 p.m. And 25 drives in aid of Kilkelly N.S. take place in Bonner's lounge on Friday nights at 9.30 p.m.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

A four night pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from September 18th-22nd. This includes full board at the Jeanne D'Arc Hotel. A spiritual director and guide will accompany the group. For more information, please contact 094-67123.

KILKELLY ICA

Ann Byrne from the ESB in Sligo gave a very interesting and entertaining microwave cooking display at the recent meeting of the Kilkelly ICA Guild in the Community Centre.

DIED IN DUBLIN

The death took place in Dublin last week of Tom Burke, formerly of Tavrane, Kilkelly. His funeral took place to Fingal Cemetery after Requiem Mass. He is survived by his wife Sheila, sons Finbarr and Pat and daughter Goretti, sister Mrs. Ann Harrington (Carrabeg, Kilkelly), relatives, and friends. The Kilkelly community tenders sympathy to the Burke family on their sad bereavement.

GOLDEN JUBILEE

Congratulations to Johnny and Catherine Mullen, Kilmovee, who recently celebrated their golden wedding jubilee. Every good wish to Catherine and Johnny on this special occasion from their many friends throughout the district.

KILKELLY LOTTO

The Kilkelly lotto jackpot has now risen to £800. There was no winner at the weekend when the numbers were drawn in Bonner's Lounge. The consolation prizes went to Alice Murphy, Aclare, Michael Coffey, Kilmovee, Mena Niland, Kilkelly, Helen Cafferkey, Aughadeffin, Eamon Cawley, Kilkelly, Ger Creighton, Kiltimagh, S. and N. Collins, Urlaur, Paddy O'Connell, Egool, and Michael Duffy, Glann. The next draw will be held in Gurren's Bar on Sunday night.

JIMMY TIERNAN, TAVRANE

Much sadness was occasioned by the sudden death last week of Jimmy Tiernan, Tavrane, Kilkelly. Jimmy was a very popular and esteemed member of the local farming community and was a gentle and good natured person who was kind to all and who spoke well of everybody.

Removal took place from the Marian Funeral Home, Knock, to St. Celcus Church, Kilkelly, with burial in Culmore Cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr. Gabriel Murphy, C.C., Kilkelly, assisted by Fr. Farrell Cawley, P.P., Kilmovee.

He is deeply regretted by his nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, and friends.

TOOREEN MEETING

A Community Alert meeting will be held in Tooreen Hall on next Monday night, March 11th, at 9.00 p.m. It will be addressed by Sgt. Danny Doherty, Kiltimagh, Mayo Crime Prevention Officer. Also present will be a speaker from Muintir na Tire who are involved in the Community Alert scheme on a nationwide basis. People form Tooreen, Aghamore, Woodfield and surrounding areas are requested to attend this important meeting.

MICHAEL WINS JACKPOT

Congratulations to Michael Killeen, Carton North, Tooreen, who won the Aghamore GAA lotto jackpot of £1300 in Knock last Sunday night.
