All-rounder Pat Hession dies

IT IS with sadness we record the death of Mr. Pat Hession, Dalton Terrace, Ballaghaderreen. Pat was a member of a highly respected and well known family in the region.

He was a great neighbour and friend, and news of his passing was received with sadness in the community.

Pat was an employee of Roscommon County Council for many years and was held in high regard by his bosses and workmates. But Pat was a man of many skills, an all-rounder who was an excellent cobbler and a keen gardener who grew many varieties of vegetables.

During his sparetime Pat had a great love of bingo and travelled to many venues to play the game with his wife Ellen.

Pat was an active member of the Fine Gael Party and was branch treasurer for many years. The very large and representative attendances at the removal of his remains from the family home, the funeral Mass in St. Nathy's Cathedral and burial were eloquent testimony to the esteem in which Pat was held and the widespread sorrow and sympathy his passing evoked in the Ballaghaderreen region.

A guard of honour was provided by his former colleagues on Roscommon County Council.

He is survived by his wife Ellen; sons John and Michael; daughters Mary, Veronica and Helen; grandchildren, brother, sister, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

His remains were removed from his residence on Sunday evening and burial took place in Kilcolman Cemetery on Monday after Requiem Mass.

UNDER-14s WIN

Ballaghaderreen under-14 team scored an impressive win over Breaffy on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-6 in a county league game played at the town pitch on Thursday. The home team led by 0-6 to 0-3 at the interval, having played with a strong wind.

However, two well-taken goals by Barry Regan ensured victory for Ballaghaderreen.

DEATH OF PATRICK TARPEY

Deceased was a highly respected resident in the community and has passing created genuine regret over a wide area. Pat was associated with Cunniffe's Meats, Ballaghaderreen for many years.
