Erris praise for Coalition Government
THERE WAS much praise for the Fine Gael/Labour/Democratic Left Coalition Government at the annual general meeting of Erris Fine Gael District Executive. A number of speakers pointed the additional funding for roads in the country, the sanctioning of phase two of Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, and the water and sewerage schemes which had been sanctioned for County Mayo.
The attendance included Deputy Michael Ring and Councillor John Noel Carey, as well as a number of delegates from various branches.John Gallagher, excutive chairman, welcomed all present and said he was pleased to see such a large and enthusiastic attendance, an indication of the new-found confidence in the Fine Gael Party and the excellent job being done by the Coalition Government.
The outgoing officers, John Gallagher (chairman), Michael J. Deane (secretary), Maureen Gaughan and Catherine Carey (joint treasurers), did not seek re-election and tributes were paid to them for their work on behalf of the executive.
There was much praise for Enda Kenny, Minister for Tourism and Trade, Deputy Michael Ring and Councillor John Noel Carey for their work on behalf of the North Mayo area. Also lauded was the Taoiseach and various Government ministers for their work on behalf of the country. Councillor John Noel Carey said Michael J. Deane and John Gallagher could feel proud of their work on behalf of the executive.
Deputy Michael Ring said the economy of the country was now on a sound basis and the Coalition Government was looking after the West after decades of neglect by Fianna Fail. Mayo, he said, was doing exceptionally well out of the Coalition Government and several major schemes were sanctioned for the county.
The following officers were elected: Chairman, Edmond Barrett, Lakefield, Bunnahowen; vice-chairman, John Carey, Glencullen Lower, Bangor Erris; secretary, Michael J. Carolan, Glengad West, Pullathomas; joint treasurers, John Gallagher, Aughleam, Blacksod, and Eddie Ruane, Clogher; PRO, Michael J. Deane, Glenamoy.
* Meetings of Erris Fine Gael will be held at different venues throughout Erris every two months and an invitation is to be extended to the Taoiseach, Mr. John Bruton, to visit Erris in the near future.
ERRIS LOTTO

The death has taken place in Sun City, California, of Fr. James Munnelly, a native of Rathbane, Crossmolina. Burial took place in California after Requiem Mass. Mass was celebrated in St. Tiernan's Church for the repose of his soulThe late Fr. Munnelly is survived by his brother John, Ballina; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.

Belmullet/Kilmore Community Games will be held on Sunday next, May 5, weather permitting. The parade of the young athletes will commence at 1.30 p.m. sharp and the support of parents would be appreciated by the organisers.CROSSMOLINA LOTTO

Mayo County Council has been requested by Deputy Michael Ring to put in place a design for submission to the Department of the Environment to remove the dangerous corners on the Glenamoy/Aughoose/Pullathomas/Glengad/Inver road. Traffic on this road will increase dramatically with the introduction of the radon tracking station.Deputy Ring requested the council to deal with the matter immediately before a serious accident occurs at those dangerous corners.
BANGOR LOTTO
The Bangor F.C. lotto jackpot was not won in the draw held on Saturday night, April 20. Numbers drawn were 1, 12, 14, 26, and the £1,800 jackpot was not won. The death took place at the District Hospital, Belmullet, of Mr. Peter Ginty, Ballycroy, a popular and respected man in the community. Peter was aged 50 years and his passing created genuine regret over a wide area.His remains were removed from McDonnells Funeral Home to the Holy Rosary Church, Ballycroy, and burial took place in the local cemetery after Mass.
Mr. Ginty is survived by his parents, John and Mary Ginty, Claggan; brothers Paddy, Birmingham; John, Claggan; Frank, Dooriel; Michael, Claggan; sisters Ellen O'Brien, Castlebar; Mary Bridgie Boylan and Christine Pritchard, Dublin; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces.
