ISLAND DEVELOPMENT POST
A Community Development Officer is being sought by the Inishturk Community Council. The successful candidate will have the task of implementing an integrated development plan for the island which is situated nine miles out in Clew Bay.Already similar positions, which are funded by the Department of Social Welfare, have been filled on nearby Inishbofin and Clare Island.
JUNIOR ANGLING TEST IN NEWPORT
Newport Sea Angling Club will host the National Junior Boat championships on Sunday May 12. Entries to Alec Latto on 098-26415. The entry fee is £7.Meanwhile on June 2 the club will stage the Heineken Inter-Pub Competition and entries are now being taken from teams of four form pubs throughout the county.
KILLALA ORDINATION
The Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry John Neill will preside at the ordination of Rev. Doris Clements in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Killala on May 31. She will serve in the auxiliary ministry as assistant Priest in the cathedral group of parishes. A few weeks after her ordination, Doris Clements will go to Haiti, accompanied by Jane Stark, a diocesan reader, to share experience with parishes there in the whole are of children's worship and the use of drama in worship. The opportunity to work in the developing country is sponsored in part by the diocese of Milwaukee with which Tuam has been linked for many years.MAYO GARDAI PASS OUT
Three members of the Garda Siochana were among the 97 who graduated from the Garda College in Templemore last week.
They were Denis Lavin from Main Street, Balla who will be stationed in Ennistymon; John O'Boyle, Ballina Road, Crossmolina (Pearse Street, Dublin) and James Reddington from Lissanumera, Swinford (Irishtown, Dublin).
