NEW CLARE ISLAND FERRY

Chris and Kay O'Grady of Clew Bay Cruises Ltd. on Clare Island will officially launch their new Clare Island Ferry "Pirate Queen" at Arklow Marine Services on May 18.

The new vessel will operate from Roonagh to the islands in Clew Bay.

The O'Grady are proprietors of the Bay View Hotel on Clare Island and have been operating a ferry service to the island for many year.

BALLINA STATION OPENING

Government Chief Whip, Jim Higgins will officially open the refurbished Ballina Railway Station on Friday.

The project is part of the on-going development of services in the West by Iarnrod Eireann and a similar ceremony will take place at the Castlebar station later this month.

CRAFT & DESIGN LAUNCH

Trade and Tourism Minister Enda Kenny will officially launch a new innovative marketing group of locally based enterprises known as the Clew Bay Craft & Design Group at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on may 17.

Those involved in the organisation are Framed Classics, Lower Charles Street, Castlebar; Ballytoughey Loon, Clare island; Celtic Cross Stitch, islandeady, Castlebar; Handmade Wooden Jigsaws & Crafts, Liscarney, Westport ; Royal Arc Designs, Breaffy Road, Castlebar; Creative Jewellery, Aughagower, Westport; Phoenix Enamels, Lower Quay, Westport and Terrybawn Pottery, Bofeenaun.

CHORAL CONCERTS

Castlebar Choral Society will present a series of concerts in Achill on Friday, Louisburgh on Sunday and in Carramore, Claremorris on Wednesday next -- all in aid of worthy causes.

The society come to the end of a highly successful season and would like to thank all those who supported them during the season. They are looking forward to celebrating the silver jubilee of the founding of the society next year.

CO-OP ANNUAL MEETING

The 24th annual general meeting of North Connaught Farmers' Co-Operative will be held in St. Brigid's Hall, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo on Tuesday next at 8p.m. The organisation recorded records trading profits last year.

PIKE RESTOCKING

Up to the end of March 426 pike, weighing 878 lbs. Were removed by gill netting from Lough Conn, the North Western regional Fisheries Board has reported.

On Bilberry Lake, Castlebar 31 pike, weighing 152 lbs were removed and twenty of them were released in Derryhick Lake which is being developed by the Board as a pike fishery.

A further 24 pike (73 lbs) were removed from Derry lake, Knock and 21 of these were released ro Curragh (Eatons) Lake which is also being developed as a coarse fishery.
