AMERICAN WALKATHON

The Mayo Rehab Foundation are organising their annual walkathon which this years will take place in California from October 24 to November 4.

During the stay in the US trips will be organised to Disneyland, the grand tour of Los Angeles, Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego.

TOP WAITER

Robert Bowe, a waiter at Ashford Castle Cong is among 38 through to the semi-finals for the best waiter for French wines and spirits in restaurant Patrick Guilbaud on May 14.

The winner will represent Ireland at the major international competition, the Grand Prix SOPEXA de Sommelier which will be held in Paris in June.

ACHILL BROCHURE

A new Achill tourism brochure will be launched by the Minister for Tourism and Trade Enda Kenny at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on May 16 while a local launch of the publication will take place at the Chalet Restaurant, Keel on Saturday May 18.

WESTERN CARE MEETING

The annual General Meeting of the Western Care Association, the organisation which caters for the needs of the mentally handicapped of Mayo, will be held in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar tonight (Wednesday) at 8.15p.m.

Form modest beginnings the services and the organisation have grown over the years to be the major service provider which the association is today.

It is now the largest parents and friends organisation in Ireland, providing a wide range or services for children and adults within Mayo.

Now in it's 30th year, the association is a Mayo organisation founder by Mayo people.

SMALL FIRMS FUNDING MEETING

The Small Forms Association in conjunction with the Irish Business Bureau will hold a half day conference in the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway on Tuesday (6p.m. with the theme "Money from Brussels - Funding Opportunities for Small Companies".

FLIGHT OF FANCY

Free Travel Passholders countrywide can now fly to any of the Aran Island off Galway for £12 in a new deal worked out between the Department of Social Welfare and Aer Arran.

This represents a reduction of £23 on the standard return fare and includes travel by bus from Galway to Aerfort Chonamara.

HEART DISEASE TALK

Mr. Maurice Neligan, consultant cardio-thoracic surgeon and Ms. Fionnuala Lavin, consultant Mayo General Hospital will be the guest speakers at the "Tuesday Talk" in Castlebar library on Tuesday next at 9 pm

The theme will be "Heart Disease in Mayo: cause and Prevention!" And until Tuesday the public can have their blood pressure or colostral checked free of charge at the Library. Donations will be accepted for the CAT Scan appeal.
