CASTLEBAR STATION RE-OPENING

THE Minister for Trade and Tourism, Mr. Enda Kenny will perform the official opening of the refurbished Castlebar Railway Station on Saturday at 1a.m.

Iarnrod Eireann have invested heavily in upgrading the facilities at all of their stations in Mayo and Castlebar is the latest to be renovated by the company.

SOCIAL SERVICES MEETING

THE Voluntary Social Services Regional Group will hold an information evening for Social Service groups in Mayo on Thursday next (May 30) at the Social Service Centre, Castle Street, Castlebar from 7.30 to 10p.m.

The voluntary workers will be addressed by Dr. John Murphy, Consultant Geriatrics, Western Health Board, Ms. Cathy Donaldson, Occupational Therapist, Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar and Ms. Eileen McDermott, Action Age Group, Boyle. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

LINK FOR PEACE

EU Commissioner Padraig Flynn will official launch "The Link For Peace" climb of Ireland's Holy Mountain, Croagh Patrick at a press reception at the Weir House Restaurant, Louisburgh on Saturday at 2p.m.

The climb, which is being organised by the Mayo Rehab branch will take place on Saturday July 13 at 3p.m.

BONNICONLON AA MEETING

TO mark the golden jubilee of the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous the Bolliconlon group near Ballina will hold their first open meeting in the Grove ballroom on Saturday at 9p.m.

TOWN EXTENSION UNDER REVIEW

ENVIRONMENT Minister Brendan Howlin is considering a report by an independent Local Government Reorganisation Commission on the extension of the electorial boundaries of town authorities.

He told Mr. Johnny Mee that the extension of the Castlebar Urban boundary was included in the submission, details of which would be made public this month.

TABLE QUIZ

A TABLE quiz will be held in the Key West, Derrycoosh, Castlebar on Friday at 9p.m. in aid of the Cornanool national school fund. There will be cash prizes and the entry fee is £3 per person.

HUGE TROUT CAUGHT ON MASK

Longford Angler Sean Kenny landed three specimen trout on Lough Mask -- in the one day.

The fish which tipped the scales at almost 36 pounds have been sent to the Irish Specimen Fish Committee for ratification.

For the record, Sean from Teffia Park, caught them on a rapala bait and they weighed in at 12 lb - 1 oz., 11 lb - 14.5ozs and 11 lb - 5.5oz.
