JOHN WAYNE LOOKALIKE SOUGHT IN CONG
A JOHN Wayne lookalike contest is to be staged as part of the "Quiet Man" Festival in the Cong, Cross and Neale areas in July.
The successful "stand-in" for The Duke will feature in a "remake" of a scene from the epic 1950's classic which starred Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.The John Ford masterpiece was shot in locations around Cong and Ashford Castle. Now locals are to cash in on the success of the film which has a cult following worldwide.
Details of the contest will be featured on the Gerry Kelly show on UTV on Friday night. The film has hundreds of fans in Northern Ireland.
During the making of the "Quiet Man" local publican big Joe Mellotte from the Neale "doubled" for John Wayne in may of the scenes.
And he is now willing to hand over the mantle to anyone taking on the challenge which will be staged from July 5 to 7.
Part of the prize will be for the look-alike to take part in a re-shooting
of a scene from the film.
