Replacement Industry sought for Ballyhaunis
INDUSTRIAL Development Authority bosses are being pressed to find a replacement industry for Ballyhaunis when the 100 workers at the town's Farah factory transfer to their sister plant in Kiltimagh.
Government Chief Whip, Jim Higgins has received assurances from the IDA that everything will be done to get an occupier for the Ballyhaunis complex at the earliest possible stage.Farah, who manufacture jeans, had indicated at Christmas that they were moving a substantial amount of their Irish operation to Morocco because of cheap labour costs.
However, on-going talks resulted in a management decision to stay in Ireland but with the amalgamation of the two Mayo plants into one at Kiltimagh.
Minister Higgins said: "The reason Farah have decided to consolidate their entire Mayo operation in Kiltimagh is because they own the plant while the Ballyhaunis factory was being leased from the IDA."
Mr Higgins said the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Richard Bruton
fully backed moves to find another industrialist for the Ballyhaunis factory.
