TOP POST FOR DOM MOLLOY

Ballina native Mr. Dom Molloy has been appointed Chief Executive and Group Managing Director of Volex Group plc and a member of the board of the company. He replaces Mr. Oliver Chapple who has announced his resignation.

Volex, the international interconnect and cable assembly group, employ over 200 workers in Castlebar, Mr. Molloy, joined the Volex Group five years ago on the acquisition by Volex of cable Products Inc in the USA, having been responsible for establishing the company's data cable facilities in Castlebar in 1987.

In April 1995, Dom's significant contribution to Volex was acknowledged in his promotion and relocation to the USA as president of Volex Inc.

Educated at St. Nathy's College, Doms earlier management experience was accumulated in Ireland across a wide industrial base.

He is married to Mary and they have three grown up children.

Dom will retain his role as President of the group's North American operations for the time being.

COMMUNITY GAMES

The Castlebar Community Games will be held at St. Mary's track today (Wednesday) for girls and tomorrow (Thursday) for boys, commencing each evening at 6p.m.

Events will be held for under-8s, U-10s, U-12s, U-13s, U-14s, U-16s and U-17s.

Athletes must be under the relevant age on July 31. The entry fee is £1.

DAVITT CELEBRATIONS

President Mary Robinson will attend special ceremonies in Straide on Sunday June 9 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Land League founder Michael Davitt

RTE LIAISON COMMITTEE

Mr. Johnny Mee has been appointed chairman of the Castlebar RTC Campus Liaison Committee. The other members of the body are Patrick Durcan, Gar Corr, Richard Thorn, Angela Lupton, Pat McHugh, Terry Gallagher, Mark Cannon, Frank Gavin, John Flannery, Pat Kilbane, Joe Hamrock, Des Mahon, and M O Baoill.

KILLALA ORDINATION

Rev. Doris Claments will be ordained to the priesthood in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Killala on Friday at 8p.m. by the Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, Right Rev. John Neill. Her priesting will mean another first for the Church of Ireland, with the group being the first to have two ordained female priests in the one area.

CASTLEBAR ANIMAL WELFARE MEETING

The Westport Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WSPCA) will hold a public meeting in the Imperial Hotel, Castlebar tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8.30p.m. with a view to meeting like-minded people from the Castlebar area.

All those interested in the welfare of animals ate welcome to attend. The WSPCA is still seeking good homes for a small number of rescued cats. Those interested should phone 098-27752 after 7p.m. for details. All the cats are spayed, housetrained and tame.
