LOUGH CARRA PIKE COMPETITION

THE Lough Carra Anglers association will stage their annual pike fishing competition on the lake on Sunday when the top prize will be the Western Hats cup plus £60 will go to the angler with the heaviest pike.

The boat with the greatest number of pike will receive £60 while the boat with the second greatest number of pike will get £40 and the boat with the third greatest number of fish will get £30.

The starting points will be from Moorehall, Brownstown or Castleburke and the competition will commence at 11.30a.n. with the weigh-in on the West Twin island at 4.30p.m..

The entrance fee is £6 for members and £11 for non members with a £3 entry fee for juveniles.

GLENISLAND WATER EXTENSION

Tourism and Trade Minister Enda Kenny has been informed by the Department of the Environment that there is a proposal with the Department for the installation of metres, extension of the scheme and the upsizing of the pipe from Glenisland Church to the main Westport Road.

An application has also been made to extend the scheme to serve a further four households.

Mayo County Council will examine the position regarding the extension of the public water supply in relation to the existing group scheme connections and will also submit a report on the installation of the water metres.

PATCHWORK SOCIETY MEETING

The next meeting of the Irish Patchwork Society, Western Branch, will be held in the Arts Centre, Dominick Street, Galway on Saturday at 10a.m.

The guest speaker will be Helen Hardesty, who will speak on "Different Techniques of Quiltmaking".

TIDY TOWNS AWARDS

TRADE and Tourism Minister Enda Kenny will officiate at the Tidy Town's Awards Ceremony at the Travellers Friend Hotel, Castlebar on Friday night at 8p.m.

SNUGBORO LOTTO

There was no winner of the Snugboro, Castlebar school lotto when the numbers drawn were 6, 22, 7, and 4.

The £10 winners were Rosaleen Burke, Derrymaunish, Patricia Moran, c/o Bungalow Bar, Brian McNulty, c/o Brown Cow bar, Sean Keilly, New Antrim Street and Noreen Gibbons, Breaffy.

The house prize was won by John McDonagh. Next weeks lotto will be £900 and the draw will take place in Johnny McHales.

BALLA COOKERY

A six-week cookery course, run by the Frank Moynihan Cookery School will be held at the Rendezvous Balla commencing tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8p.m.

The first night is for enrolment and briefing session. The course fee is £65 and telephone bookings can be made on 094-65561.

JOBFIT CONFERENCE

A JOBFIT Employers' Conference will be held in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar on Friday November 1.

The Minister for Tourism and Trade Mr. Enda Kenny will officially launch the Jobfit Training & Procedures document which has the seal of approval of the Chamber of Commerce at 7.30p.m.

KNOW YOUR SPORT

Mr. Michael Quirk from Ballina will be one of the competitors on "Know Your Sport" on RTƒ One on Monday at 8p.m.

His chosen subject will be Mayo football 1976/96.
