Ballinrobe Lotto Winners Raise the Roof
Syndicate members get £25,000 each
A syndicate of twenty Ballinrobe, construction workers hit the ceiling when they won the £500,000 Jackpot on Wednesday night last. The group, headed by suspended-ceiling contractor Mike Cawe, travelled to Lotto Headquarters in Dublin on Thursday to collect the cheque, which leaves them all £25,000 the richer.
The workers have been doing the lotto together for the past four years and this is their first big win.
They purchased the ticket in John Cummins supermarket in Ballinrobe the previous Friday, the location where a mystery punted scooped £1.7m at Easter.
Company boss Mick Cawe said: "Work was suspended when we went to collect the cheque. This is a great boost. We were all down after losing the All-Ireland but it came right on Wednesday night." Nineteen of the lucky group travelled to Dublin by Bus, collecting the 20th member of the syndicate in Athlone en-route.
John Cummins store in Ballinrobe has been very lucky in recent times. As well as the two big wins a lucky punter had five numbers on the August Bank Holiday weekend for a prize of £10,000,
