Congratulations to Martin Casey (Castlecarra), Mick Heneghan (Clogher) Kevin Vahey (Brownstown) all of whom are employees of Cawe Suspended Ceilings. The lucky three were involved in the lotto syndicate and received £25,000. Well done lads.

CARNACON WIN MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

CARNACON 1-12 THE NEALE 3-5

Carnacon won the Minor Championship final in a close and exciting game against the Neale played at Mayo Abbey on Sunday last.

Carnacon started well and had many dominant periods in the game but the Neale never gave up and pulled back a deficit of 5 points to come just within one of the champions.

The Neale. Many fine displays on the day in Cora Staunton who contributed 10 points to the Carnacon tally. Michelle McGing , Maria Staunton, Maria Hayes, Orla Corbett, Linda Staunton and Denise McEntyre saw Carnacon true to the title form the defending champions The Neale.

The prominent player for the Neale was Jane Casey (Captain), Elaine Kennedy, Assumpta Bohan, Loretta Hughes, Edel Biggins and Edel Mullin.

After the game Martin Casey (Vice-Chairman) Mayo Ladies to Board presented the shield to Maria Staunton (Captain) Carnacon team. Referee: Jimmy Coen (Hollymount).

OFF TO THE LAND OF OZ

Veronica and Nuala Gilligan (Ballyglass) have left on a month's visit to Australia. They hope to travel extensively. We wish them an enjoyable and safe trip.

STATIONS

Carmel and Danny Stephens (Ballyglass) hosted the stations on Friday night October 4th. Carmel and Danny live in London and are a very popular and welcome couple on their frequent trips to their home in Ballyglass.

LADIES CLUB MEETING

Ballyglass Ladies Club A.G.M. was held in Ballyglass Community Centre on Wednesday night October 2nd. A wide number of issues was discussed. Officers Elected: Joint Chairpersons: Josephine Barrett, Bernie Keaveney, Secretary Bernie Keavney, Treasurer: Barbara Mc Nulty, P.R.O: Nora O' Reilly.

The group has planned a number of educational talks for the coming winter and has appealed to all ladies in Ballyglass and surrounding areas to come out to those talks. So come on girls show an interest.

PLAYSCHOOL REOPENS

Ballyglass Playschool has reopened with an enrolment of 13 children: Rachael Gibbons (Annies) Keith Derrig, Sara Scahill (both Clogher), Chloe Reilly (Rathuacreeva) Aoife Brennan (Weatherfort) Morris Murphy(Ballyglass), Aoife Mc Loughlin, Newbrook, Aine Jennings (Moorehall ) Lorna Moran (Stonepark), Jerry Martin (Weathfort), Adrian Walsh (Mayo Abbey), Ann Connolly, (Summerhill), Aishling Ruane (Belcarra).

NEW FAMILY IN CLOONFLYNN

We welcome Tommie and Samatha Hughes and children Lee and Keelin to Cloonflynn. We hope they meet with success and happiness in the area.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extend to Bourke family Drumore, Clogher, on the death of their mother Mrs Kathleen Bourke.

REGRETED DEATH

Clogher Community Council committee wish to extend sympathy to their Chairman Michael Heneghan and his family on the death of Mr Thomas Heneghan, Claremorris.

FOROIGE

Clogher Foroige Club held their first meeting of the year 1996/97 on September 21st. Tributes were paid to Padriag Heneghan, who resigned as leader of the club last June after many years of great dedication. New members were welcomed as well as the clubs's new leaders, Breege Black and Agnes Larkin.

Officers for the year were elected as follows: Bernadete Heneghan (Chairperson), Joseph Mahon (Vice Chairperson), Paula Murphy (Secretary), Catherine Vahey (Vice Chairperson), Orla Donovan (Treasurer) and Helen Vahey (P.R.O.).

The club first fundraising event will be a car wash at Clogher Community Centre on the 20th of October. Other events are being planned and support from the community would be greatly appreciated.

The club would like to extend their congratulations to Edward and Helen Kelly on the birth of their son Oliver and also to Padraig and Bridie Coleman on the birth of their daughter Amy.

Sadly, Amy's birth was followed just one week later by the death of her grandfather James Coleman and the club wished to express their deepest sympathy to James family and friends.

PRESENTATION OF NURSING AWARDS

Margaret Moran is a runner up in the 1996 Milton Education Awards and was awarded a bursary of £700.

Margaret who is a staff Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit as Sligo General Hospital, is a native of Ballintubber. She intends using her bursary to undertake a Higher Diploma in Nursing Studies at University College, Dublin.

SAD DEATH

Sympathy is extended to Coleman family Newtown on the death of Mr James Coleman. His wife Annie, sons Padraic and Seamus daughters Marian and Patricia and a wide circle of friends a sincere sympathy.

BLACK PUDDING CLUB

On Friday night the BLACK PUDDING club will travel to Castlebar to The Cobweb Bar for a night of music ballads and poetry and craic.
