BABY SON FOR ENDA AND FIONNUALA KENNY
Tourism and Trade Minister Enda Kenny and his wife Fionnuala became parents for the third time with the birth in a Dublin hospital on Monday of a baby boy.However, the Minister was absent for the occasion, having to attend the US conference on Trade and Investment in Pittsburgh.
He flies into Dublin today (Wednesday) when he will see his new son, Naoishe who weighed in at 8lbs - 2 ozs., for the first time.
The couple who were married in January 1992, have two other children Aobhinn (5) and Ferdia (2).
STAINED GLASS WINDOW SMASHED BY THIEVES
Gardai in Castlebar are continuing their investigating into a break-in at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Castlebar were a large brick was thrown through a stained glass window to gain entry.Glass in the window, which had been in place for 94-years since the Church was opened, was scattered over the floor.
Collection boxes were rifled but as they are emptied every day, the thieves got away with very little cash.
Parish Priest Fr. Paddy Curran said attempts would be made to repair the stained glass and have it put back in place.
Gardai are anxious that members of the public who noticed anything suspicious in the vicinity of the Church of Thursday night - Friday morning last to contact them at 094-22222.
COMMUNITY RADIO FORUM FOR CASTLEBAR
A special forum with representatives from the eleven community radio stations, organised by the Independent Radio and television Commission will take place at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar at the weekend.It is one of a series which have taken place over the past year to discuss the ongoing developments in the sector.
The delegates will be welcomed to Castlebar by Una Ni Ghabhlain, chairperson of Community Radio Castlebar.
The running of the forums is part of the ongoing evaluation being carried out by the IRTC and it is expected that the Commission will announce its policy on Community radio sometime towards the middle of next year.
COMHALTAS CIVIC RECEPTION
Ballina Urban Council will accord a civic reception to the Ard Comhairle of Comhaltas Ceoiltoiri Eireann in the Council chamber this evening (Wednesday) at 5.30p.m.Comhaltas have agreed that the annual Fleadh, attracting up to thousands of people will be staged in Ballina next year.
KNOCK FLIGHT TO HOLY LAND
Tight security surrounded an historic EL AL Israel Airlines Boeing 757 flight from Knock Airport to Tel Aviv yesterday (Tuesday).Comprising of 140 Knock Shrine pilgrims they departed on the first ever direct flight from the West of Ireland to the Holy land.
Knock Shrine Parish Priest Monsignor Dominic Grealy is leading the ten day pilgrimage which is made up of people from all parts of the country.
