FATAL ACCIDENT AT BALLAGHADEEREEN

A 28-years old man returning to his native Mayo for the Bank Holiday weekend was killed in a two car collision outside Ballaghadeereen.

He was Barry Gilmartin of Woodeligh Oaks, Rathgar, Dublin. His wife Marina (nee Millett from Castlebar) and the driver of the other vehicle were also injured.

Mr. Gilmartin was a native of Currower, Attymass, Ballina and was just recently married. He is also survived by his brother Shane, sister Orla and uncle Monsignor Chris Kennedy, California, relatives and friends.

His remains were removed from the Thomas Street Funeral Home, Castlebar last evening (Tuesday) to Attymass Church. Interment will take place in Castlebar cemetery after Requiem Mass this morning (Wednesday) at 11.30a.m.

SWINFORD HORSE FAIR

THE annual Swinford Horse Fair takes place on November 16 on the streets of the town when a registered Connemara colt foal will be raffled. All the proceeds go to Aras Attracta, Swinford.

MOYGOWNAGH RESEARCH FINDINGS

THE Minister for Social Welfare, Proinsias De Rossa will officially launch the findings of the Moygownagh Women's research Project at Moygownagh Community Centre on Friday at 12 noon.

ONE LESS MEETIN

G THE next meeting of One Less, the organisation of one-parent families, will be held in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Tuesday night at 9p.m.

TENNIS COURT STORM DAMAGE

The weekend storms caused damage to one of the courts at Castlebar Tennis Club when a portion of a roof from a building on Celtic Park was blown off. A floodlight was also damaged.

WHEELCHAIR TREK TO WEST INDIES

The Irish Wheelchair Association will formally launch details of the organisation's 12th international sponsored walk at a press conference in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar this evening (Wednesday) at 8p.m.

This year the participants will follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus on the Islands of the West Indies.

THE LITTLE PRINCE IN BALLINA

The Yew Theatre Company will stage the "Little Prince" in the Building Theatre, Arran Street, Ballina on December 2 to 5 at 11a.m. and 1.30p.m.; December 6 at 11a.m. and 8.30p.m.; December 7 at 8.30p.m. and December 9 at 11a.m. and 1.30a.m.

AIRPORT RADIO SHOW GETS AWARD

An MWR radio documentary charting the history of Knock Airport has won one of the prestigious ESB national media awards for 1996.

The award was presented by President Mary Robinson in Dublin today (Wednesday) to the programme's producer Tom Shiel and Teresa O'Malley who presented the documentary entitled

"Who said Elephants can't fly".

The programme was compiled to mark the tenth anniversary of the opening of the airport last May.
