Tickets out by Monday

Tickets for the All Ireland senior final re-play should be out this weekend but will not be with the clubs until Monday. County Board P.R.O. Aiden Brennan said it would be Monday at least before the tickets would be all sorted out.

In relation to an increased allocation, he said that would not become clear until Croke Park decided if they were to put on a double bill or just go for the one game. If only the senior match goes ahead there could be a reduction in numbers for safety reasons, as such large crowd could not be catered for if all arrived at the one time.

Mr Brennan said the county Board secretary Sean, Feeney, and Connaught Council Secretary, John Prenty, will not be answering phone calls and people were wasting their time trying to make contact by phone. "These two men are up to their eyes in enough work without having to answer the phone", he said.

He said clubs would be responsible for the local ticket allocation and those seeking tickets should apply in time and not leave as late as the last game. He said officials who had received tickets for the drawn game should apply in writing to the county secretary with a blank cheque.

Manager John Maughan has urged supporters to leave the players alone and for family members not to start looking for tickets from players.

Galway great urges Mayo supporters to lift gloom

A former Galway great, Seamus McHugh, who starred as a defender in the 70 and 80's has urged Mayo supporters to pull out of the depression and lift their heads for the All Ireland re- play.

The Galway man said everyone was behind them and the Mayo team had beaten Meath off the field for almost sixty minutes. He described it as the best performance by a Connacht team in a long, long timer.

McHugh said Mayo supporters must now get behind the team and now to be gloomy about their prospects of winning the re-play. He said he couldnŐt understand the depression and gloom which pervaded after SundayŐs draw. "Mayo were the best team. They are still there and we will be behind them for the replay", he said.

Of course he also pointed out that Galway will be plotting their downfall this year. But for Sunday week all of Connacht stand behind Mayo. "The supporters must rally to the now more than ever", he said.

WORLD WIDE ALL-IRELAND COVERAGE ON INTERNET

AS MAYO battled with Meath on Sunday, the latest score was constantly being updated on the Internet by Michael Hambly at the "Mayo on the Move" Web site. People all around the world had the opportunity to follow the match point by point.

For a group of ten musicians in Le Mans, France, it was a lifeline. They were able to keep pace with the game as Michael inputted each and every score.

You can picture them huddled round a computer screen in a French pub shouting for mayo as the scores came through with the bemused French looking on sympathetically.

This service will be operating again for the historic replay. Readers with relatives abroad, unable to get a live radio or television commentary should, advise them to access the Internet where they can follow the match. They should look for it on page http://www.mayo-ireland.ie/Mayo/GAA/AllIre96.htm
