Celtic revival loses pace

Ballinasloe Town ................ 3
Castlebar Celtic ................ 1

Castlebar Celtic's Connaught Senior League revival is losing pace. They suffered their second consecutive defeat on Sunday when they went under to Ballinasloe Town.

Celtic fell behind to a Harry Loughnane goal, but equalised before half-time through Kevin Ryan. Ryan converted a penalty following an incident which resulted in a Ballinasloe player being sent-off.

It looked good for Celtic at half-time. But Ballinasloe had other ideas, even with ten men. They took control of the match in the second half, killing off Celtic with goals by Loughnane and Kevin Flanagan.

The game marked the return to action of Castlebar Celtic goalkeeper Declan Kilkelly following a two-month layoff with an arm injury.

Castlebar Celtic: D. Kilkelly, S. Reilly, L. Reilly, D. Conway, K. Murphy, S. Gavin, K. Ryan, F. McHale, M. McNicholas, R. Gibbons, K. Burke. Res: D. Lawless (for Conway); K. Boyle (for McHale).

Killala make promotion claims

Killala are keeping their fingers crosses that victory over Newport Town in Sunday's play-off at Moneen will ensure them of promotion to Division One.

It was originally envisaged that the winners of the play-off would have to play Castlebar Celtic, the side which finished third from the bottom of Division One, to resolve the issue.

But that is unlikely to happen now because of Manulla's decision to join the Connaught Senior League.

Goals by Eddie Kenny and Mark McLoughlin gave Killala victory over Newport.

Killala: P. Hennigan, D. McGowan, E. Kenny, S. Walsh, G. Gillespie, E. Kenny, A. Gallagher, P. Bilboe, O. McHale, E. Munnelly, M. McLoughlin. Res: B. Moran and Martin McLoughlin (both used).
