SETTLEMENT REACHED BETWEEN FEUDING NEIGHBOURS
The Achill Island 'rooster row' has been resolved following a signed agreement between the two parties involved which was handed into Westport Circuit Court yesterday.
Judge Harvey Kenny, had jailed 62 year-old mother of three, Moira Gallagher, Achill Sound, for contempt of court over her failure to obey a court ruling.
Despite an order made by Judge Kenney to have a wall built between herself and her neighbour Peter Masterson, Mrs Gallagher refused carry out the work.
Part of the complaint had been that Mrs Gallagher had removed a hedge between the properties while there was also an objection to a noisy rooster she kept in her back garden. She was subsequently jailed for contempt by judge Kenny and spent fourteen days in Mountjoy.
At Westport court yesterday Mr John Jordan B.L. handed in an agreement signed by both parties which should see an end to the matter.
The issue was adjourned until March 5 to allow the wall to be built by Mrs Gallagher, and "other ancillary maters".
Judge Kenny said the fact that both parties had signed the agreement now made it a rule of court that the wall is to be built and he adjourned the matter of contempt until the March court in Castlebar.
Judge Kenny paid tribute to Mayo County Council for the work currently
been undertaken at Westport Courthouse and said he could see many more court
sittings being held in the town.
