MAN CHARGED WITH ABDUCTION OF NURSE

A Dublin man is due to appear at Castlebar District Court today (Wednesday) in connection with the abduction of a public health nurse near the town in January 1995.

The man who was arrested in Dublin, will also appear before Judge Dan Shields on other charges.

NURSE MARY O'Mally (32) was taken from her car by three young men as she was doing her rounds at Derrywash, Castlebar. One of them had an imitation gun.

The nurse was driven away in their vehicle. Later she was forced into the boot of the abductors car and eventually managed to kick her way out, run to a nearby house and raise the alarm.

A full reconstruction of the incident was shown on 'Crimeline' and since then a full Garda investigation has been on-going both in Mayo and Dublin.

Gardai in the town believe the raiders are part of an organised gang targeting such materials.
