RTC DESIGN PLANS BEING DRAWN UP
Following discussions between Tourism and Trade Minister Enda Kenny and Mr Gay Corr, President of Galway RTC, who has responsibility for the Castlebar campus, Mr Corr confirmed to Minister Kenny that the plans and design works for the Castlebar RTC were now being drawn up so that expenditure of the £600,000 can take place as soon as possible.
Minister Kenny said: "The drawing up of the plans will not take very long and once the design has been agreed with the Department of Education, tenders will then be placed in the normal way in the European Journal.
"I have been assured by Mr Corr that it is only possible to spend the £600,000 in 1997 but that a substantial amount of this work will actually be completed before the students return form the summer recess.
"This is extremely good news for everyone concerned and will allow
preparations for an appropriate allocation for 1998 to be made to finish and
completely refurbish the property leased to the Department of Education on
behalf of the RTC in Castlebar. Consideration can then be given to a further
expansion of the facility", Minister Kenny added.
