Cash boost for Castlebar RTC

Connaught Telegraph, Mayo, Ireland 7 May 1997

Special tax measures have been included in the Finance Bill for Regional Technical Colleges, the Minister for Tourism and Trade, Mr. Enda Kenny. Section 16 of the Finance Bill will allow tax relief on donations raised by individuals and corporations to invest in third level education. The tax relief may be availed of for projects in publicly funded third level institutions.

The types of project for which the tax incentive is made available are: the undertaking of research; the acquisition of equipment; in Infrastructural development in specified institutions and the provision of facilities designed to increase student numbers in areas of skills needs.

Minister Kenny said: "This measure is a step in the right direction for the Castlebar campus and is an additional incentive which should be of particular advantage to the RTC.

"With the IDA now prioritising its policies in favour of the West of Ireland and the spin off from the designation of Knock Airport as a tax free zone, particular skill shortages will be identified.

"The Castlebar RTC can present itself to the private sector as being an institution of very high quality to which young people can apply for entry to courses and from which they can gain jobs. This is the bottom line in everything we do."
