Gallagher was in a hurry for Achill

Achill Rovers .......................... 2

Urlaur United .......................... 1

Kieran Gallagher struck the fastest goal of the season to date when he was on the mark for Achill Rovers after just eight seconds of their Mayo League Premier Division victory over Urlaur United at Curraune on Sunday.

Rovers midfield ace Mark Corrigan lobbed the ball into the Urlaur penalty area directly from the touch off, and Urlaur goalkeeper Marty Harrison failed to hold the ball.

Young Gallagher was in like a flash to take advantage and give Achill a sensational early lead.

Urlaur have never beaten Rovers since the island club moved to Curraune, and the writing was on the wall for them after Gallagher's sensational strike.

Gallagher increased the margin for Achill in the 18th minute when he sank the ball sweetly to the net after J.P. Kean's free-kick caused cause in the Urlaur penalty area.

With the wind at the backs, Achill were totally dominant.

But the scenario changed in the second half when the elements favoured Urlaur.

PLAYED BRILLIANTLY

They looked like they were going to take control when Ollie Duffy scored ten minutes into the second half.

It was all Urlaur United after that, with chances falling to Adrian Moran and Michael Nevin, on his debut.

But the Achill defence played brilliantly to keep the Urlaur attack at bay.

Michael John Fadian was particularly outstanding in that regard in his central defensive role, while Dan Fadian was also exceptionally good.

Goalkeeper Colm Gallagher displayed his class once again, while there was also valuable contributions from full-backs, J.P. Keane and Vincent Gallagher.

Urlaur were disappointed to have dropped all three points, but they could be happy with certain aspects of their performance.
