Mayo's first luxury four star hotel will be opening its doors this Bank Holiday Weekend.

Westport's Knockranny House Hotel will open for business this Friday, May 30 with a celebration with The Guinness Jazz Band.

The £4.5 million facility has been developed by Geraldine and Adrian Noonan. Geraldine is daughter of Peter and Mary Corcoran, owners of the hugely successful Castlecourt Hotel on Castlebar Street.

The official opening will be held later in the year.

Construction of the hotel began last year when Minister for Tourism and Trade, Enda Kenny, turned the first sod for the facility.

Situated on a 12 acre site on Knockranny Hill, the hotel has breath taking views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay and towers over Westport town itself.

Phase one of the development sees the opening of fifty luxury bedrooms, restaurant and bar facilities as well as a library and drawing rooms. There are also conference facilities, a leisure suite and extensive car parking space.

The second phase of the hotel is due to start in November when an additional fifty bedrooms will be built. An extensive leisure centre will also be developed with a twenty metre swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna, steam and treatment rooms.

Knockranny House Hotel aims to give its customers a warm homely atmosphere, while offering sophistication, style and elegance.

Being marketed nationally and abroad, the potential business mix being pursued is the high yield leisure client from all markets and also the corporate conference/incentive business.
